A recent CalCo Museum addition is neither old nor new, even though it has been around almost six decades. This item is a Hasbro Spiderman circa 2014. Standing about 12” tall, the still popular figure can be posed in different heroic positions. In addition, with fresh batteries installed pressing a button renders loud, snarky remarks appropriate for a teen superhero. Spiderman came on the scene in 1962 as a Marvel comic book character created by writer Stan Lee (1922-2018) and artist Steve Ditko (1927-2018). In reflection, I realize that for a short time in my life I was rich because one of those #1 edition books sold at auction for $1.1 million. Truth be told I was not a big fan of Spiderman and my copy went by the wayside. I preferred Superman, an Action Comic character who had been around since 1938. I had been reading his books long before Spiderman. Superman claimed the admiration of my generation so much that someone paid $3.2 million for a #1 issue.
