Vintage “Baby Calculator”
CALHOUN COUNTY MUSEUM
Another modern marvel has been loaned to the Calco museum by Randy Duncan. The 3” x 5-3/4” x 5/16” mechanical calculator is just about the size of my I-phone. The similarity ends there with the possible exceptions both instructions are diffi - cult to understand, the baby calculator more so. Th ere is absolutely nothing electronic about this circa 1930 calculator that sold for $2.50. Naturally the required stylus is missing, but a 3-inch nail works just fine. I found the instructions for a competitor model, the Kalkometer that works the same. Th e “baby computer” was produced in Chicago by Calculator Machine Company. This company sold three models from the 1920’s until the 1960’s with this model on the market from 1928 to 1947.
