CCSO Responds to Assaults in County

On May 3, 2020, Kimberly Gorman was traveling on Calhoun County Road 90 when Scott Benson side swipe the truck. When Gorman was able to get out of the truck, Benson struck Gorman. Gorman had a bloody nose, and a knot on the left side of her head. At 3:00pm Gorman arrived at the Calhoun County Sheriff”s Office to report the incident. At 5:00pm, Deputy Williams went to Benson’s residence but was unable to make contact. An arrest warrant was then obtained for Benson for Aggravated Assault and Battery 2nd Degree. On May 12, 2020 Deputy Daniel Foster and Deputy Drew Reynolds went to the residence of Scott Benson in an attempt to take him into custody on the arrest warrant. Upon arrival Deputy Foster went to the front door and knocked. After several attempts, Benson came to the door and walked out to the front yard with the deputy’s. At that time he was taken into custody and transported to the Calhoun County Detention Center where he was booked in, received a $10,000 Bond, and was later released on bond.

On May 12, 2020, Deputy Dimitri Williams was dispatched to a domestic disturbance call at 563 Calhoun 231. When Williams arrived at the location he made contact with Betty Bryant the home owner. Bryant stated her grandson and his girlfriend live at the residence with her, and that they had been fi ghting all morning. Chief Deputy Andy Carter was able to locate Colton Bryant who was driving Betty Bryant’s truck. He was asked about the incident, and stated that he and his girlfriend Cynitha Gorman had been fighting all morning. Bryant showed Carter bruises and bite marks that Gorman had left on his person. Williams was with Gorman at the residence, and asked her about the incident. Gorman stated that Bryant attacked her and left bruises on both arms. Williams and Carter took Colton Bryant and Cynitha Gorman into custody at that time for Domestic Battery 3rd Degree and transported them to the Calhoun County Detention Center. They were later released on bond.
