Dog Attack Discussed at Thornton

Animal Control Officer Charles Hartsell discussed a recent dog attack on a dog being walked by its owner. The Pit Bull was being kept at the home of Elizabeth Beard. The dog attacked was on a leash as required. The Pit Bull is gone from the city and the owner has been fined and will be required to pay bills due to the owner of the injured dog as a result of the attack. There was discussion of a possible ordinance regarding dogs.

Water Superintendent Randy Burke discussed the continuing closure of the old landfill which should be completed in a few weeks. He explained the Municipal League insurance did not pay anything on the damage done by the lightening strikes. Mayor Coates will investigate other insurance options for the City.

He also stated the old Back Hoe is not operable again. A local citizen is going to try to fix it. Thornton received other bids for repair that was more than the equipment is worth. He has investigated prices of used Back Hoes in case we can’t repair this one.
