Quorum Court Discusses Going Solar

A representative from Today’s Power, gave information to the quorum court about establishing a solar farm in the county. Today’s Power is a subsidiary of Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. and sister company to Ouachita Electric. The solar energy will power county buildings such as the courthouse.

The court was told they would have to lease about four acres of land for the solar farm. In order to get the solar farm installed and built, the county will have to agree to the kilowatt hour price.

The ground lease is for 26 years and must commit to the price for 20 years. Th e county can terminate the agreement if needed. County Judge Floyd Nutt told the court it’s supposed to save $65,000 annually on electricity cost. The representative was there to give more information to the court. No decision was made.
