Shire Sweeps Up for The Sun

The South Arkansas Sun placed in several categories at the annual Arkansas Press Association convention. Columnist Jeri Shire was awarded first place in the “humorous column” category for the column “Feeling Financially Fit.” She also received second place in the humorous column category again for her column “Sleeping In.”

“When I first won a few years ago it was exciting because I had not written a newspaper column in years, no, decades!” Shire said, “I thought ‘I’ve still got it!’ I try not to think about whether mine was the only entry!” Shire laughed.

The judges, who are from different states, commented the columns were funny to read and true to life.
