Stand Up for Freedom

I Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America...

The pledge to the flag is an public acknowledgment of citizenship to this country The Flag is a symbol around the world of freedom, of justice and of opportunity. It is rooted in the Declaration of Independence that states we are created equal and are endowed by their creator life, liberty (freedom) and the pursuit of happiness (opportunity) for everyone.

And to the Republic for which it stands...

The flag represents the constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights that gives rights of individuals to peacefully assemble and protest to change laws or even change (amend) the constitution when wrongs are discovered. The Constitution lays out the basis for our government and how changes are to be addressed. As a Republic it is our representatives that are democratically elected who are supposed to make laws allowing for people to achieve life, liberty and pursue happiness. The Republic allows for different States to have varying laws and still be a part of the larger consensus of government, thus we call it the United States. It is the responsibility of our representatives (Congress) to make laws that are just for all and if there are unjust laws that need to be changed, it is also Congress’ responsibility to change them. When they fail, as often is the case, it is up to the people to replace them, vote them out of office.
