The Hampton Bulldogs opened the 2020 season last Monday at Boyd Arnold Stadium with a hard fought victory over the Class 3A Centerpoint Knights. It came 3 days late and against a different opponent but it was a great win nonetheless. Originally, Hampton was supposed to be at Mountain Pine to kick off the year but the Red Devils went to 8 man football in early August. Centerpoint stepped in to take Mountain Pines place and the Dogs had quickly stepped up in weight class with the seasoned Knights from Pike County.
Tropical Storm Laura made its way to Arkansas on Thursday causing some damage in Calhoun County. A couple houses were damaged and one utility sustained damage. According to the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management, at least one road was closed due to downed trees and power lines.
With COVID-19, schools around the state have to adjust to the new guidelines and procedures.
The Calhoun county Quorum Court approved purchase of seven new TASERs. The TASERs will cost around $3,000 each and will be paid for over the next four years. The TASER 7 model is capable of delivering multiple shots to separate suspects if needed. The TASER is a nonlethal method of dealing with a violent suspect. Also approved are new body cameras for the officers which offer better quality, dependability and storage of video.
