Melba Childs

Melba Childs, 83 of Kingsland, died Th ursday, May 30, 2019. She was born November 15, 1935 to the late Nick and Florence Ritchie Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband George Harold Childs and her grandson Matt Spencer.

She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and friend. A life-long devout Christian, she used her talent to worship through song at Kingsland United Methodist Church, where she led the choir for over 40 years. She was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Dallas Mavericks. She loved to dance and was known for her witty sense of humor and love of life. Above all, she was a gentle soul who loved and supported her family fiercely and was a loyal friend to all that knew her.

She is survived by three children: Rickey Spencer (Tootie) of Kingsland, Beverly Brown (Eddie) of Warren, and Keith Spencer (Connie) of Kingsland; her grandchildren: Tiff any Holland (Jerried) of Warren, Jessica Hamilton (Mitchell), Jamie Martin, Taylor Spencer, Jonathan Spencer, all of Kingsland, Lauren Spencer Williams (Bradley) of Rison, Julia Martin (Zach) of Woodlawn, and Jonathan Martin (Nicole) of Fayetteville; her great grandchildren: Christopher and Kiera Kervin of Greenbrier, Spencer and Slade Holland of Warren, Dallas Hamilton of Kingsland, Emerson and Wesley Williams of Rison; her sister, Jean Boyette, of Shreveport, Louisiana; and a number of special friends, including a caregiver, Mrs. Jo Terry of Warren.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6PM until 8PM at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 10AM Monday at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel.
