Bulldogs Squash Bugs

“21-7 win secures home playoff opener”

Salty, stout, dominant, destructive!! All of these words and then some could be applied when talking about the Bulldog defense after Friday nights throttling of the Fordyce Redbugs at Arnold Stadium. Outside of one play, a 90 yard TD run on the last play of the half, the Dogs completely controlled the Fordyce offense holding them to only 10 yards of passing and 112 rushing yards. The bigger stat however is the 0 that the Redbugs added to the scoreboard in the 2nd half after the momentum changing run!

While the defense did their thing the Hampton offense started off strong as well. After forcing a punt on the games first possession the Dogs took over at the Fordyce 44 yard line. After the 1st 2 plays netted 4 yards the 3rd play netted the 1st big play of the night. On 3rd and 6 Gauge Welch pulled the ball from fullback Tre Murphy’s belly and took it left , popping out of a big hole, for a 41 yard TD run. Malachi Pumphrey and DD Stephens provided the 1st big blocks that sprung Welch and he turned on the jets and scooted into the left corner of the endzone for the score. His PAT was good for the 7-0 lead with 9:05 left in the opening stanza.
