The Quorum court is wrapping up several projects that have been in need for the past several months. The courthouse roof and painting repairs are nearly complete. “The work looks good and they were fast” said Judge Floyd Nutt to the court as they were passing ordinances to finish paying for it. They also repaired some of the sidewalk that was damaged and he hopes to do more in the near future.
The Woodberry park will get new lighting and a resurface to the walking path as a result of a grant. Other items will be repaired as funds allow.
Another major expense is repairing the elevator in the administration building. The elevator has been out of commission for a few months while getting estimates for repairs. Only a few companies work on elevators and the estimated cost appropriated for the repair is $65,000. The elevator services the basement where several offices are located, including the veteran services administrator and classes for the community.
An old van was approved to be donated to an organization in the county that helps those recently released from jail or prison to gain a firm footing in the workplace.
The Sheriff also continued the discussion about adding cameras in the county to monitor those who come into the county. It is a way to quickly track stolen vehicles and Amber alerts. Having the cameras also gives the department access to all other cameras in the nation. Most of the surrounding counties have them at the access points to the county. The company recommends adding four at each of the highway entrances to the county. The cost for four camera would be $12,000 a year.
