Happy Birthday Calhoun County!

Happy Birthday Calhoun County!

Calhoun County, established on December 6, 1850, officially turns 175 years old this Saturday! This Saturday on the Courthouse Square in Hampton, we will celebrate the county’s 175th birthday with historic games and community fun. Starting at 2pm, everyone is invited to come downtown to join us for a celebration.

Therewillbegamesofbadminton hosted by the Hampton city office, chess and checkers in the library, and dominoes in the courthouse. Hampton High School’s FBLA is hosting a cornhole tournament fundraiser, and the local Cub Scout pack will be having a bake sale and cake walk, too.

First Baptist Harrell will have candy apples for sale, the Museum will have its binders of unidentified photographs on display, and you can view slideshows of county history presentations from community celebrations over the past year while you sip the free hot chocolate generously provided by Generations Bank and eat a piece of birthday cake. Join Cooperative Extension in the courthouse for knitting and crochet, or visit the Clerk’s Office to do some historical research (like checking out the book of historic markers and brands)! Just after dark, a big fireworks show visible from the Courthouse Square will cap off our year of celebrations around the county.

It’s not too late to participate. If your business or organization would like to join, call us at (870)798-4492. We look forward to seeing you all downtown on Saturday!
