The Hogskin Hero Cook-Off BBQ competition was held this past Saturday at the Calhoun County Courthouse Square in Hampton. Featuring first responders, local fire departments faced off against law enforcement teams to produce the best tasting barbeque.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Hampton Police Department, Pro-Med, Hampton VFD, Harrell VFD, Locust Bayou VFD, and Tinsman VFD (pictured above) were all in the competition and there were other activities not to be missed, included intentional vandalization of a car. There were four awards presented at the First Annual Hogskin Hero Cooki-Off. The ProMed DeRIBulators was awarded “Best Sauce” and the Harrell Fire Department was awarded the 'Best Overall Setup.' Second place for ribs goes to the Harrell Fire Department. The winner for the best ribs goes to Keith Gresham with the Chambersville Fire Department.

As a prelude to the upcoming Annual Hogskin Holidays the teams each provided their best barbeque ribs. Some teams had barbeque for sale and others offered free tastings.

The event was hosted by the Calhoun County Office of Emergency Management. This is sure to be an event that will grow as it is a fun way to help the community get to know those who are on the front lines in times of crisis and emergency.
