Dear Sir, Thank you for the notice on the SBE Solar Project. I was totally unaware of it. we did research on solar fields and solar panels, went to the public hearing and asked questions. We talked to people in town including people with solar panel on their homes.
We found most people didn't know anything about the solar project. Most people didn't think it was a good idea for a lot of reasons including the solar panel home owners.
Some of the reason were: It's not a reliable source of energy. It has a short life span. The 'subsides' for the project will probably be dropped by this administration. And 13,500 acres is a lot of solar panels. The representatives suggested it might be 7,000 acres but that's still a lot.
I've asked several times at the courthouse for a map of the designated land and nobody has one. Nobody can tell me exactly what land they're talking about. That's a little weird.
Mr. Hasten, CEO of Arkansas Electric Co-op, had and article on the need for a rate increase to build a natural gas plant to replace the coal plants. With the new innovations in small nuclear plants; hydro pumps and hopefully lower natural gas prices, I can't see the reason for solar. The other would be more productive, longer life span and cheaper energy.
Thanks, Karin Tucker
