I love when I meet someone and instantly click with them. There's no awkward small talk, you don't have to overthink everything you say, they just get you. Some people may never find that person for them. I'm lucky. I've gotten to experience this a few times.
One of my favorite instances of this was when I met Larry. Larry is probably the weirdest person I have ever met. However, Larry is the person I would call if I had car trouble, needed a mini chainsaw, or late at night for an impromptu t-shirt for some random dress up day at school.
Larry knows exactly what mood I'm in just by the way I answer the phone. There are plenty of times he knows to tread lightly, even though he never actually does. He somehow always knows exactly what to say, but only after he's given me a smart aleck remark that raised my blood pressure through the roof.
People always ask, 'Does he not drive you up the wall?' 'How do you work with him?' Answering those questions honestly, yes he absolutely drives me up the wall. The second question is harder. Work doesn't feel like work when I'm working with Larry. Whether he's almost sitting in the same chair as me checking over the paper, or when we're fighting over who gets to use the mouse when he's working remotely, or even at 6 o'clock on Thursday mornings when we're stuffing and labeling the paper to be delivered. Larry makes work fun.
It's an extraordinary feeling to know that someone understands every bit of you and is always going to be there for you. Me and Larry were cut from the same cloth. It might be a dirty old shop rag, but we came from the same one.
