Is Social Media Really Addicting?

Editorial

There are studies and now even lawsuits over the addiction of social media with kids. There is substantial evidence it has been the cause of the rise in suicides in recent years.

So, is it (SM) really addictive? 'Addiction is a strong, uncontrollable urge to use a substance or do something, even if it harms your health, relationships, or daily life. It happens when a temporary feeling of pleasure or relief changes how your brain processes reward and self-control, making it incredibly hard to stop.' (Google summary.)

Let's see, is SM dominate on you mind? Do you constantly look to see who is being featured, usually in a negative light? Are you looking to see if your post has comments? Do you spend hours searching for the next big hit? Can you put the device down and not check it for hours or is it just for a minute or two? Can you talk with others without looking at the phone?

It may start early, especially if parents are in constant need of tracking kids, but it lingers well into adulthood.

How addicted are you? Check your 'screen time.'
