Calhoun County Recognizes National 4-H Week with Official Proclamation

Calhoun County is celebrating National 4-H Week after Judge Nutt signed a proclamation officially recognizing October 4-10 as National 4-H Week in Calhoun County. The proclamation highlights the positive impact 4-H continues to have on youth and recognizes the organization's commitment to developing leadership, citizenship, and life skills through hands-on learning opportunities.

National 4-H Week is observed annually across the United States to celebrate the achievements of 4-H members, volunteers, alumni, and supporters. As the nation's largest youth development organization, 4-H empowers young people to gain valuable skills in agriculture, science, healthy living, citizenship, leadership, and community service.

The week began with Service Sunday, as Calhoun County 4-H members announced a Thanksgiving food drive. Throughout the week, members will collect non-perishable Thanksgiving meal items to help support local families during the holiday season. The service project reflects one of the core pillars of 4-H: giving back to the community.

The celebration continued Monday with a community Clover Quest, during which participants searched for hidden 4-H clovers around the courthouse. The event served as a fun and interactive way to increase awareness of the local 4-H program while encouraging community involvement.

Additional activities have filled the remainder of the week. On Thankful Tuesday, current members and 4-H alumni shared what they are most thankful for having gained through their 4-H experiences. Their responses were displayed on a recognition wall in the Calhoun County Courthouse. Wednesday's 'Paint Calhoun County Green' encouraged local businesses and community members to wear green in support of 4-H, with photos shared on the Calhoun County Extension Facebook page.

The celebration continues with Try It Thursday, when members share something they were inspired to try because of 4-H. Those responses will also be featured on the courthouse display wall. On Flashback Friday, members and alumni will reflect on and share their favorite 4-H memories, creating a visual showcase of the program's lasting impact on generations of Calhoun County youth.

The week will conclude with 4-H Spirit Saturday, when members are encouraged to submit photos of themselves dressed in their favorite 4-H apparel and colors. These photos will be shared on social media as the final celebration of National 4-H Week.

The Calhoun County Cooperative Extension Service extends its appreciation to Judge Nutt, local businesses, community partners, volunteers, alumni, and families whose support helps make 4-H a meaningful and lasting part of Calhoun County. National 4-H Week serves as both a celebration of the program's rich history and a reminder of the bright future being built by today's 4-H youth.
