Watch Out for Snakes

Recently, a Maumelle High School football player went out for practice, put on his helmet, and felt something moving inside. Quickly, he removed the helmet, and there was a poisonous snake! He immediately threw down his helmet, and they killed the snake.

Snakes like to hide in shoes and dark places. The lesson is clear: 'Look first before you leap into danger.'

In the Bible, the snake is referred to as a serpent called Satan: 'And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world...' (Revelation 12:9).

Satan hides in dark places, ready to strike with sin. My mother used to say, 'Nothing good happens after midnight.' I like what the Psalmist said: 'Blessed is the man [or woman] who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.'

— (Psalm 1:1–2) Watch out for snakes—both physical and spiritual.
