CalCo Rodeo Arena Improvements Introduced at Quorum Court

CalCo Rodeo Arena Improvements Introduced at Quorum Court

Calhoun Quorum court met in regular session Monday and approved two ordinances. Ordinance 2021-12 was to appropriate funds to cover insurance on a recently purchased truck for the Office of Emergency Services. The second ordinance 2021-13 authorizes the County to purchase services from a member of the court, Bill Blann. There are similar ordinances for others on the court.

Judge Floyd Nutt began a conversation about putting a roof over the Calhoun County Rodeo Arena. Nutt explained that it would take the help of donations, grants and the community to get the ball rolling. The cost would be in the neighborhood of $1.1 million. Nutt believes he can acquire a $350,000 grant leaving about $750,000 for the county to come up with through donations or other means. The Judge thinks the arena could be used for many other activities, such as concerts, crusades and other large gatherings. It would be the largest covered arena in south Arkansas.
