Captain Robert D. Labash,

age 83 of Hampton died Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at his home. He was born March 30, 1939 in Bridgeport, CT. Robert served in the United States Marine Corps for 24 years. He served as a Drill Instructor, was temporarily promoted to 2nd Lieutenant during the Vietnam War where he promoted to the rank of Captain, the highest rank he held during his service and later retired as. After the war, Robert returned to being a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer where he promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major, a rank he held until he left the Marine Corps. Robert was awarded the Bronze Star (with Valor), Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal (two awards), Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Marine Corp Good Conduct Medal (three awards), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with star device), Navy Sea Service Deployment Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, and the Pistol Sharpshooter Badge. Bob was a man of faith and attended Woodberry Baptist Church faithfully. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Labash and Mary Feltovith Labash; wife, Janie Clemons Labash; one step daughter, Jackie Langford; three brothers, John Labash, Michael Labash, George Labash; and one sister, Mary Labash Andras. Bob is survived by one daughter, Leslie Binam of Wentzville, MO; one step son, George Ovask, Jr. of Bella Vista; two step daughters, Theresa Sjostrom of Lake St. Louis, MO, Dena Fulbright of Waco, TX; two sisters, Margaret Labash Young of Hopkins, MN, Rose Labash of Fairfield, CT; twelve grandchildren, Cassie Binam, Nikki Binam, Dexter Fulbright, Cecelia Fulbright, Samantha Fulbright- Chamberlain, Annie Sjostrom, Michael Sjostrom, Ryan Sjostrom, Josh Chapman, Kellie Langford, Nathan Langford, Laura Langford-Rogers and four great grandchildren.

Robert will be carried by James Chambliss, Carter Chambliss, John Morgan Gorman, Ryan Sjostrom, Michael Sjostrom, and Tanner Guthrie.

Visitation will be Monday 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at Woodberry Baptist Church with Rev. David Inzer and Rev. Loren Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
