Meverlean Roper was born on January 14,1935, in Hampton, Arkansas to Leola Phillips and Verius Roper. Meverlean attended Rayford Public School in Hampton, Arkansas. She was the eldest of eleven siblings whom she treasured immensely. Meverlean accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church in Hampton, Arkansas.

Upon entering adulthood, Meverlean moved to Houston, TX and began her career as a dedicated Housekeeper. She worked for W.T. & Patricia Stephens for over 30 years before retiring. Meverlean moved into

Meverlean moved into a neighborhood where she became a loved and cherished community member. Through her love of cooking, equipped with an eager and neutering spirit, she met no stranger. If she did, they'd become well acquainted with her Fried Chicken, Peach Cobbler, and 7-Up Pound Cake. She was a fervent lover of Plants, Dogs, Football, Basketball and Daytime TV shows like Judge Judy and Steve Wilkos.

Meverlean would go on to become a Cherished Matriarch, affectionally given her name "Granny, Gran-Gran and GiGi". She was a surrogate Grandmother to many from the blocks of First Ward to Northwest Houston. Her love for those around her flowed in abundance.

She departed this life on March 24, 2022, at Memorial Herman Greater Heights Hospital surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Meverlean is preceded

She leaves precious and loving memories to five Daughters-Melva Dean Elder, Neater Sumler, Sherry Burrell, Glenda Roper and Brenda Roper McQueen of Houston, Texas, two Sons, Rickey Strong and Donald Strong of Houston, Texas. eleven Grandchildren-Kindell Sumler Jackson, Kanisha Roper Edwards (Willie), Tracy Sumler, Stacy Hobbs (Steven), Kesi Burrell, Karimah Burrell, Corey Elder Sr., Farid Roper, Kiarra Cobbin, Cameron Strong and Daija Horton, of Houston, Texas. fifteen Great Grandchildren-Parielle Elder of Detroit, Michigan, Corey Jr. and Chloe Elder, Anthony Branch, Diante Harris, Benjamin Goffney II., Javian Jones, Mason Reed, Jayden and Christian Jackson, Tracy Jr., Shardae, Tianna, and Tyla Sumler, Kynnedei Ward of Houston, Texas. one Great Great-Granddaughter-Ariyah Branch of Houston, Texas. three Sisters-Lonnie Allen, Lillie Daugherty, Josephine Padgitt, of Houston, Texas. two Brothers-Bobby Tate of Houston, Texas, Kenneth Phillips (Brenda) of New Albany, Mississippi. one Uncle-Douglas Thomas (Barbara) of Rochester, NY. two Loved and Devoted Caregivers-Ruthie Caraway and Michael Onyekwelu of Houston, Texas and a Host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends
