Hampton Bulldogs Fall at Junction City

If Wood Newton needed any inspiration for a new song about missed chances and regret then he should have been in Junction City Friday night. He would have seen his Bulldogs push the Dragons all over the fi eld for 2 plus quarters only to fade away late in a haze of turnovers and mistakes that took one touchdown off of the board and fumbled away another scoring chance through the end zone for a touchback. Th ose miscues and a bruising 2nd half rushing attack were enough for the Dragons to send the Dogs home with an 18 point defeat. Early on the Hampton Defense was stout, holding the Dragons to only 43 total yards in the 1st half. However, the off ense couldn’t capitalize on that success.

After Gauge Welch intercepted a pass and returned it 10 yards to the Dragon 31 the Dogs were in business. On the 2nd play DD Stephens went around the left side for what appeared to be a 27 yard touchdown run,but a illegal blocking penalty negated the score. Hampton would turn the ball over on downs 3 plays later and the 1st golden opportunity swirled down the drain
