Crisis Brewing

We appear to be headed toward a collapse of the house of cards that is the Internal Revenue Service. We are just getting into this tax season and the Service is still trying to process about 6 million tax returns from last year. In addition to that there are over 2 million amended returns plus millions of payroll tax returns. The Service is not even estimating when they will be getting caught up. Their only advice for the backlog is to not file a second return or contact the IRS to ask when your return will be processed.

Westerman: COMPETES Act is left over Build Back Better

In less than two weeks, the U.S. government runs out of money to fund necessary programs. Prices continue to rise for consumer products of all kinds, from gasoline to chicken. Millions of Americans have left the workforce and businesses are desperately searching for employees. Students and their families in Blue states across the country are still dealing with school district policy dictated by teachers’ unions that want schools closed. These are real problems facing the American people, but instead of addressing these pressing issues, the House voted on a nearly 3,000-page bill to spend over $300 billion on giveaways to China, unions, and “Green New Deal” radicals. Rather than tackle the issues that are forcing Arkansans to tighten their belts, President Biden and Congressional Democrats leave hardworking Americans to fend for themselves in favor of the “America COMPETES Act.”

HISTORY MINUTE

In the wild pioneer days of Arkansas in the late 1800s, tragedy was common and families could easily be torn apart by a sudden twist of fate. The most vulnerable in society, the children, were so often left behind in the wake of personal disasters as very few resources or organizations existed for their benefit. But one group of Arkansans, guided by their faith in God and hearts fi lled with generosity, became determined to do something to help abandoned children. The result was the Arkansas Methodist Orphanage.
